Artistic and Cultural Management (Evening Classes)

ESE - School of Education

The Degree in Arts and Culture Management was created by the Decree-Law 1412/2007 of 29 th October and the course started on the academic year of 2007/2008.

After decades of cultural, social and political isolation (till 1974) and a brief historical period of cultural production and downstream, Portugal has made an effort to be at the side of the central countries as far as the production and distribution of cultural and artistic goods is concerned, in spite of all the financial constraints. However, this movement has not been adjusted neither to education (formal or informal) nor to the preparation of new publics, at the risk of maintaining an elitism that only strengthens the financial constraints of production and access to cultural goods. On the other hand, the amount of international offers in this area, make us:

  • preview urgent national needs in the medium term as a consequence of globalisation and the consequent mobility as a result of that; and
  • feel the need to prepare technicians capable of managing human and financial resources to present cultural products with emphasis in Arts management.

The Degree in Arts and Culture Management tries to improve this situation, through the training of cultural managers. The course prepares students do develop skills in the area of disciplines, languages and grammars that shape in each epoch and in each space the identity of each culture in order to be able to understand the implications that expressions and realities can have as far as the relations between societies and cultures, between human beings and between people and the world they live in are concerned.
