The School of Agriculture was established in 1985 and is located in the rural area of Refóios, Ponte de Lima, 30 kilometres from Viana do Castelo. The School is housed in an old monastery and the original buildings were superbly restored and adapted by Fernando Távora, a renowned Portuguese architect, to incorporate all the necessary modern facilities. The land surrounding ESA provides the resources and infrastructures that allow its students to acquire the skills they will need in their future professional activities. This – together with recent investments in educational and information technology and laboratories – enables the School to produce highly qualified professionals and thus to promote the development of the whole region.
