Living in Portugal

The population in mainland Portugal is around 10.000.000 people. Lisbon is the capital and his metropolitan area has 2.600.000 inhabitants, about a quarter of the total population. Other important cities are Oporto (second largest), Braga, Coimbra and Faro.

Viana do Castelo is a very attractive small town in the north of Portugal and it has around 35.000 inhabitants. Capital of the Alto Minho region (250.000 people), surrounded both by river and sea and protected by the luxuriantly green Santa Luzia hill, Viana do Castelo is proud of its beautiful landscape and of the hospitality of its people.
