Presentation

This course is organized in three years.

First year provides the underpinning skills and knowledge you will need to study specialist mechanical engineering topics later in the course. It consists of analytical subjects such as mathematics, engineering, materials engineering, physics, chemistry, mechanics, fluid mechanics, technical drawing and computer assisted drawing.

Second year will introduce you to more-specialist studies. In the second year a more specific subjects such as production processes, electrical electronic and mechanical Systems, strain Analysis, thermodynamics and industrial organization and management are being studied.

In the third year, in order to develop and improve the practice of the previously acquired skills and abilities, the students work is focus on their final project. The training areas include: design and computer-aided manufacturing, mechatronics, machinery components, industrial maintenance and development of engineering projects. Health and safety at work and entrepreneurship is offered as optional subject. This year it is also directed towards expertise science in renewable energy or metalworking, taking into account the significance of these industries in the region.

The teaching methodology of specialized subjects will focus on experimental methods, elaboration of projects and/or works, which reinforce the solid technical training base in order to provide quick adaptation of the students to future career functions. The course will be related with industrial reality by real contact with the companies achieved by implementing curricular projects in the actual workplace.

Course Aims

The program included in Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering provides students with the following skills:

  • Acquisition of a solid background in basic mathematical and scientific knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles and subjects of mechanical engineering;
  • Ability to apply acquired skills in the wide range of social and technical problems using creativity;
  • Ability to achieve the leader positions in their work and community;
  • Imagination, accuracy and responsibility;
  • Ability to apply correct engineering principles to model, measure, analyze and design mechanical and thermal components and systems; And to understand the operation of machines, tools and systems used in industry, namely, mechanical, hydraulic, thermal, pneumatic, electrical / electronic and associated facilities ;
  • Acquisition of professional skills necessary to formulate, execute and design projects, to work in team, and to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to maintain intellectual curiosity that influences life-long learning and to be able to response to rapidly changing challenges of the twenty-first century;
  • High level of integrity and ethics in multidisciplinary teams.

Length and Professional Profile

The Mechanical Engineering course is organized in three years consisting the first cycle of studies foreseen in the Bologna Process.

This course is designed to offer polyvalent graduates with skills for creating, executing and managing a large range of works within the scope of Mechanical Engineering.

Career Opportunities

The Bachelor´s Degree in Mechanical Engineering allows its graduates to perform a broad range of different tasks:

  • Design and development of new products (integrated design, ergonomics, sustainability, etc.), CAD, engineering and computer aided production;
  • Projects of structural machinery, equipment and other relevant products;
  • The production of energy (thermal energy, wind energy, new energies, climatization, etc.);
  • Management and control of production and organization (logistics, transportation, industrial maintenance, human resources management, quality control, etc.);
  • The development of mechanical and thermal equipment (machine tools, steel frameworks, boilers, heat exchangers, etc.);
  • Provide students with a broad intellectual view in the mechanical engineering area;
  • Develop relevant engineering background, including experience in practical application of the theoretical knowledge;
  • Develop skills, work habits and sense of responsibility through workplace training.
